Wireless Systems Engineering - Tools development (5 Aug 1996–1 Apr 1999)
Responsible for the design and implementation of a GUI front end and utilities for a BSS capacity analysis tool called 'CT7100'. Coordinated with database designers in India, marketing in France and customers in Ireland. Mentored and trained peers on the application architecture and development methodologies. (HP-UX, Sun Solaris, C++, ILOG, Ingres/Sybase, perl).
Researched, analysed and implemented two releases of a capacity analysis tool for MSC/HLR switches called 'Adept-G'. Provided technical support for internal and external customers (HP-UX/Mac, VisualWorks Smalltalk).
GSM call processing re-architecture (16 Oct 1995–2 Aug 1996)
Part of a small team of senior engineers chosen to develop a new object oriented call processing architecture. Influenced several areas of the initial design and played a key role in supplementary services development. Final architecture became one of the most successful major software re-works in Nortel switching (HP-UX, Protel-II).
GSM supplementary services development (12 Oct 1994–12 Oct 1995)
Implemented enhanced functionality for the GSM Multi-Party supplementary service and provided support in established areas of expertise (GSM MAP/TCAP, HP-UX, Protel).
MSC/TSC SS7 signalling development (12 Aug 1991–12 Oct 1994)
Completed several software features encompassing many areas of Nortel switching, demonstrated the ability to research, analyse, coordinate, develop, document, test and debug. In particular the re-development of an SS7 signalling system (BTUP) onto a new base call processing architecture. Acquired an advanced understanding of the GSM product and Nortel's large-scale development environment (HP-UX, Protel, Pascal).
Features:- Introduced and supported Echo Cancellers on the DMS MSC/TSC.
- Integrated and Tested the DTCO+ Hardware for GSM switches.
- Q767 (ISUP variant) documentation.
- ISUP signalling support.
- Redesigned and supported BTUP for the MSC, using the NXCP architecture.
Nortel Networks Training
During my time at Nortel Networks I was placed on over 40 days worth of training covering technical courses, self-improvement courses, and management courses. Over the last few years at Nortel Networks I also embarked on a plan of self-education through reading and personal projects.
